Best outfit ever?
In other news, it's nice to see that D's computer skills have already exceeded mine.

Hospital shot!

In honor of her nine-month-bday, I've unearthed an early pic of D from the hospital (yes, I have been trawling for photos of a newborn D all day. I am an addict and chubby thighs and cheeks are my drug).

From catwalk to crib: Jil Sander

Even though I am usually covered in baby food and/or vomit these days, I am still a fashion lover. So I suppose it's only natural that I am thinking about (dreaming of?) the latest designer duds, even when playing with baby D. (After all, it's what I do for a living so I guess I'm entitled!)
You can imagine how thrilled I was to notice that baby D's outfit the other day ended up looking like it came straight off the Jil Sander runway. I am totally obsessed with this whole casual-luxe T-shirt and brightly hued ballgown skirt combo (ever since I saw it on the cover of US Vogue in the nineties - I think it was designed by Ralph Lauren back then) and I just love everything about this Jil Sander by Raf Simons spring collection, from the neon maxis to the florals and stripes.
Baby D's take on the trend comes courtesy of the Gap (and I suppose she is going slightly Black Swan/Chloe Spring 2011-esque with the tulle tutu skirt) but I think she looks fabulous in her minimalist outfit. And check out that pose!

Playtime with Bolsh and Baby D
How things change!
Once upon a time, a belligerent bulldog used to harass a tiny infant. It was loving harassment: slobbery kisses, lots of licking, wanting to play.
Once upon a time, a belligerent bulldog used to harass a tiny infant. It was loving harassment: slobbery kisses, lots of licking, wanting to play.
Now, that bulldog just wants some sleep (he's been out in the sun today so needs about a week to recuperate. Also, it's no secret he comes from a Rotting family). But a not-so-little baby keeps on climbing all over him, trying to put his harness in her mouth and tugging at his ears and tail.
Even Bolsh can't resist it when baby D is as overjoyed as she is in this pic. Although when she's being particularly grabby, he does look over at me pleadingly before rolling his eyes.
Isn't this what life with siblings is all about?
P.S. Check out D's homage to sixties style with her peasant top and superflare jeans! The only thing missing from this pic is her sun hat, the Urban Sombrero (pic to follow when Rotter is capable of functioning again).

Delicious D
Another day and baby D and I are still beyond congested and feeling slightly miserable. I'm a bit confused by the whole breastfeeding thing, since I thought that allowing my baby to develop a dependency on my body meant that at least she would be getting all the good stuff, i.e. my antibodies, so this type of scenario of constant illness would be avoided? Two possibilities, then: either I have no antibodies to give, or she's taken them all which means I can still get sick all the time and pass it on to her. What a vicious cycle!
Anyway, there's nothing better than looking at a smiling, happy, baby D to cheer my mucus-addled self up. Of course, I get the real thing in front of me (trust me, just as good even if she's looking slightly worse for wear and resembling Snotzilla), but this pic of a wide-eyed D just makes me smile.
Partially, it's the reworked kimono-cum-dress she's wearing (how cool is that! it comes courtesy of a loving friend with impeccable taste) and also her amazing bracelet-slash-toy accessory (another gift from a fashionable source), which is a lot of fun because the little bug makes a little rattling noise to keep D occupied. And of course, D already knows the power of adding a vibrant accessory to an outfit!
But most of all, I feel like this pic really captures D's budding personality: inquisitive, thoughtful and calm. Who knows where she got those traits from...

Hitting the bottle
As some close friends of Baby D's mom already know, there was a point in her life when she exclusively drank copious amounts of Diet Coke which may have resulted in extreme dehydration that landed the then-18-year-old rotter in the emergency room. Ahh, the joys of youth.
Of course, being a mom and all these days, I set only the finest examples for my baby D (which is to say that while I still shovel candy and chocolate into my mouth by the bucketload, I mainly have the decency to do it when baby D isn't looking).
So far, so good. Here's baby D enjoying her new (but still not favorite) drink: boiled (then cooled-down) water.

Baby Style
I'm not going to be one of these crazies that spends every hour and penny making my child a fashion plate (not that I'm judging you, Katie Holmes -- I admit that Suri looks AMAZING, even if slightly creepy sometimes). But when you happen to throw together an ensemble - in this case a combination of baby D needing to be warm (it was Christmas Day), needing to be presentable (it was Christmas Day, so we took her to church) and having a limited number of clean clothes (this was still the stage when baby D was aggressively soiling through every outfit, and if I remember correctly, this one didn't last too much longer) - and your kid looks like they should be starring on The Sartorialist, you have a right to be proud. And I am.
